One-Day Tour from Los Angeles to San Diego
What You'll See Along the Way
This one-day trip takes you from Los Angeles to San Diego, showcasing all the major attractions of Southern California. We'll travel 120 miles on the interstate highway. Departure is scheduled for early morning to avoid heavy traffic.
- USS Midway
Traveling along the Palms to Pines Highway, we can stop for lunch at a local winery in Temecula Valley. Then, we head straight to the heart of the city, exploring the restored ships of the Maritime Museum along the downtown waterfront. Note the USS Midway, the longest-serving American aircraft carrier of the 21st century, which housed 225,000 sailors over its lifetime. This historical relic offers visitors a chance to view 60 different exhibits and 29 restored aircraft on board, including those that flew during WWII, Operation Desert Storm, and the Korean War. You'll see the crew's sleeping quarters, the engine room, the ship's jail, and the main control room. - Gaslamp Quarter
Victorian buildings surround you as you stroll through the Gaslamp Quarter, while the 21st century is in full swing at the Leviathan Horton Plaza shopping and entertainment complex. The area now hosts a variety of shops, art galleries, theaters, and trendy restaurants, not to mention numerous bars and clubs. This is the hub of San Diego's nightlife. The Gaslamp Quarter also hosts many city events throughout the year, including the Mardi Gras carnival. - San Diego Zoo
Malayan tapirs in an artificial Asian rainforest, polar bears in an artificial Arctic — the San Diego Zoo houses an extensive and diverse collection of creatures in meticulously designed habitats. Arrive early, wear comfortable shoes, and stay as long as you can manage the crowds of children. - SeaWorld Park
If you wish, we will visit SeaWorld — a huge theme park with shark aquariums and lively orca shows. SeaWorld San Diego seems to attract almost everyone, especially families. However, if you're looking for thrilling rides, this isn't the place to find them. The park is open year-round, with festivals in the summer, special Halloween shows in October, and Christmas celebrations at the end of the year. - Old Town
A tourist district with genuine historical significance, full of Spanish and Mexican heritage. Soak it up in the plaza of San Diego's historic park, then check out the stalls and shops outside the park. Old Town was the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1769, Catholic priest Father Junipero Serra founded a Spanish mission here. By the 1820s, settlers had moved closer to the water in the Gaslamp Quarter, leaving the "Old Town" behind. The district offers a charming, romantic mix of white adobe buildings and Spanish-tiled roofs. Wooden storefronts resemble many Old West towns. In many ways, however, it is more of a theme park mix than a piece of real history. - La Jolla
Situated above an idyllic cove, the town of La Jolla invites you to linger. Its coastline curves into natural coves surrounded by green hills. Upscale shops, galleries, and restaurants cater to your tastes, while secluded trails, scenic views, and abundant marine flora and fauna provide a pleasant sense of seclusion. Slow down for a while to enjoy the shopping streets, the beach, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
After sunset, we'll head back to Los Angeles, reflecting on a day full of rich impressions. The guide will help you get to your hotel or another convenient location.
