North Miami Beach originally had a different name. Namely Fulford by the Sea or Fulford by the Sea. In 1926, he was named after Captain William H. Fulford of the US Coast Guard.
In the aftermath of the 1926 hurricane that ended the South Florida real estate boom, locals united to form the city of Fulford in an effort to mitigate their losses and damage to the city, and the city changed its name in 1927. In 1931, the city was renamed North Miami Beach.
