Opa-locka — Moorish Renaissance in the Miami Suburbs

Opa-locka has a rich architectural heritage, with its unique Moorish Renaissance buildings bringing its unique character to this Miami suburb.

Opa-locka is a small town located in the northwestern part of Miami-Dade County. This city was created by Glenn Curtis on the theme of "One Thousand and One Nights" in 1926.

Opa-locka owns the largest collection of Neo-Moorish-style architectural objects, and its streets have unusual and beautiful names, for example, Shaherizada and Sultan.

Initially, it had the name Opa-Tisha-wocka-locka, that is, "a huge island under the cover of trees and swamps", but due to the unnecessary complexity, it quickly transformed into a simpler and more convenient version.

The famous architect Bernard Müller created twenty unique pieces of architectural art that became part of the National Register of Historic Places.

Opa-locka landmarks

The town of Opa-locka is a great place to admire the unusual sights. For tourists, the twenty buildings of Bernard Müller have a special magnetic force. These are unique architectural works in the style of the Moorish Renaissance, distinguished by their extraordinary beauty. Bright domes and arches suggest that you are not in Opa-locka, but in Central Asia.

Another place to spend time in the city is Sherbodny Park — beautiful and cozy, with wonderful paths, tall and beautiful trees, beckoning to sit there and enjoy the calmness and coolness.

Another artificial reef was not so lucky, and after the failure in its creation, the construction site was corny filled with tires, making it no less amusing attraction and a kind of installation about the harm to the nature of human activity.
