Art Basel in Miami Beach

Art Basel Miami Beach is the global focal point for the contemporary art scene, uniting creators, collectors, and art enthusiasts from around the world under one roof.

A bit of history

The most significant event in the world of contemporary art, the Art Basel Miami Beach exhibition and fair, naturally takes place in Miami, the most pleasant and beautiful resort in the United States. You can still be in time, the opening time of the main exhibition programs in early December of each year. Preparatory work is already underway, familiarization parties and conferences are being held.

In Miami, of course, they know how to have fun and any action becomes not only informative, but also spectacular. Banquets, holidays, celebrations, which certainly accompany the art week in Miami Beach, last at least another five days. It will be congratulation ceremonies, dinner parties, interesting sales and auctions.

Art Basel is an art week, in the framework of which exhibitions and shows of thousands of eminent gallery owners, demonstrations of exhibits from private and private collections, galleries exhibit their collections from dozens of countries. The exhibition includes the simultaneous holding of several exhibitions, galleries and other cultural events. This event serves as the perfect venue for encountering innovative works and the latest trends in the art world.

The history of the festival began back in 1970, when 3 outstanding gallery owners from Switzerland, Trudy Bruckner, Ernst Beyeler and Baltz Hilt, organized a stunning festival in Basel. In 2002, gallery owners were invited to Miami Beach, as a new cultural center in the world. It was the first art exhibition and fair in the United States of this magnitude.

Since then, a festival called Art Basel Miami Beach has been held annually, attracting more and more tourists, connoisseurs, artists, gallery owners, restaurateurs and celebrities from around the world.

Art Basel timings

In December, Florida is very good and, as always, sunny. Although a little cool for the indigenous people. Outside the window an average of 25 degrees, the water temperature is the same. You can swim in the ocean and collect shells, although many prefer pools. In December there is no severe summer heat, which can be easily transferred only on the seashore and many tourists catch a cold under air conditioning.

For the inhabitants of most northern countries, it is December — this is the most comfortable time for a detailed and attentive acquaintance with Miami. You can leave the house without a panama and not turn on the air conditioning.

At other times, it’s hotter to spend an art week in Miami would be difficult — all on the beaches, in restaurants, in clubs or in air-conditioned supermarkets. It's hard to admire high art, sweating and dreaming of a surfboard and a glass of cold cola. Well, finally, you can put on a tuxedo without fear to turn into a piece of roast on the ribs. The time for this wonderful Art Basel Miami Beach festival is perfect.

Features of exhibits and sectors

Art Basel covers an area of more than 45 thousand meters. This is real Disneyland from art. The territory is divided into several main sectors with different cultural themes. Each sector of the festival is managed by a separate manager. The exhibition features a large number of exhibitors, which are respectively divided into sectors.

  • Sector Nova or contemporary, respectively, contains only new works and is dedicated to contemporary, contemporary art, which is developing at the moment.
  • Personal and private exhibitions can be seen in the Kabinett sector — artists and creative associations are located here. In this sector, new artists can also be accommodated if their work seems particularly significant or corresponds to the theme of Art Basel.
  • Section Film Art Basel will be held in the hall of the New World Center, conferences dedicated to this sector will be held in the main Miami Conference Center. Not all actions fit into the dense program of the festival. Many film screenings take place simultaneously with other prominent events. Significant premieres can be demonstrated repeatedly.
  • The Public section hosts the exposition and action in Collins Park. One of the most famous museums in South Florida - Bass - is participating in the exposition.
  • In 2014, the new Survey sector successfully debuted with historical exhibitions.
