Museum of Jurassic Technology
The Museum of Jurassic Technology is one of the most captivating museums in Los Angeles, featuring a surreal collection of seemingly unrelated objects.
There’s a collection of very tiny sculptures, each made from strands of hair. You’ll find a room full of letters sent to the Mount Wilson Observatory. There’s also a gallery consisting solely of paintings of dogs that were involved in the Soviet space program. Don’t forget the Russian tea room, where visitors share space with extraordinarily tame birds.
The Broad
Opened in 2015 in Los Angeles, The Broad houses about 2,000 works of contemporary art, including Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog and Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room.
Guests must book tickets online and reserve an additional ticket for the Infinity Room if they wish to see it. Food and cocktails can be enjoyed at the nearby Otium restaurant.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art showcases a diverse collection of artworks. It is the largest art museum in the western United States and boasts one of the most varied collections of art.
Outside, visitors will see the famous Urban Light installation, consisting of 202 restored antique cast-iron street lamps illuminating Wilshire Boulevard. Centrally located between the beach and downtown LA, LACMA is one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.
Getty Museum
The J. Paul Getty Museum consists of two campuses: the Getty Center and the Getty Villa. Opened in 1997, the Getty Center is breathtaking in many ways. Designed by architect Richard Meier, its hilltop location in the Santa Monica Mountains offers incredible views. Thoughtful exhibits, impressive gardens, and dining facilities welcome guests daily.
The Getty Villa, located on the eastern edge of the Malibu coast, is dedicated to the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Admission to both the Getty Villa and Getty Center is free, though parking costs $15.
Griffith Observatory
Located in the stunning Griffith Park, the largest public green space in LA covering over 4,000 acres, Griffith Observatory offers some of the best views of the city, including downtown and the Hollywood Sign. Opened in 1935, the observatory offers free telescopes, exhibits, and a high-tech planetarium. Entry to the observatory and grounds is free, though planetarium show tickets have a small fee.

Natural History Museum of Los Angeles

Craft Contemporary
Previously known as the Museum of Craft and Folk Art, Craft Contemporary offers a progressive approach to modern folk art. This institution continues to expand its programs, featuring everything from Venetian glassmaking to American printmaking, circus dioramas by Sonny King, and retrospectives of Hungarian designer Eva Zeisel.
Petersen Automotive Museum
Located in the Miracle Mile, Petersen Automotive Museum underwent a high-tech redesign in 2015, transforming it into a state-of-the-art gallery displaying around 150 cars. The museum features a mix of famous Hollywood vehicles, luxurious vintage cars, and high-performance supercars.
