Matheson Hammock Park in Miami

Matheson Hammock Park is a unique natural park in Miami, offering enchanting landscapes, serene beaches, and perfect conditions for picnics and nature relaxation.

Hammock Park — the beauty of water and land

Matheson Hammock Park is one of the oldest parks in the entire region, founded in the 30th year of the last century. Its founder was Earl W.J. Matheson. The total area is 255 hectares, in the northern part from the west this beautiful park is in contact with the territories of the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

Biscayne Bay became a haven for this wonderful place, and the park is located at a distance of 50 km from the infrastructure of the city. Here you can relax and have fun. The design of the park is constantly being improved, but the general concept laid down by the architect Phillips is still so amazing that nobody wants to change it.

Throughout the park there are small indoor and outdoor areas for organizing a picnic. Each of them offers wonderful views of the park.

Matheson Hammock Park welcomes tourists with a beautifully furnished entrance and atoll pool. Also, there are many palm trees of natural origin. Here are mangroves, as well as very ancient trees. The artificially constructed atoll pool with a fine structure of interaction with the bay is suitable for swimming. Near the pool there is a small restaurant and a snack bar. The restaurant is built of coral stone and is a valuable architectural phenomenon.

Matison Hammock Park also has its own beach with a refreshing breeze, which constantly walks here. You can get to this beach while strolling through the park.

Visiting Matheson Hammock Park do not forget to walk along different trails that go deep into the landscape. Here you will find exotic landscapes and a variety of trees. Only here you can understand the value of mangroves, which are so anxiously lately protected from destruction.

Park Infrastructure

Of the types of outdoor activities, tourists will find the possibility of renting bicycles and boats, on which you can arrange a water excursion. In the water area of the park you can engage in various sports. There are many yachts and boats on the shore of the park, different vessels up to 15 m long can be moored here. From the infrastructure you can find a fishing store, as well as accessories for yachts and boats.

Since Biscayne Bay is an integral part of the park and is designed not only for visitors from land, but also from water, in 2011 work was carried out to build an additional room in which about 400 boats can be stored at a time (a kind of water garage).

However, it is impossible to say exactly about the possibility of operating this building. The Matheson family still cannot say for sure whether the completion of this impressive building will affect the park's infrastructure and its historical atmosphere.

In any case, Matheson Hammock Park is an amazing place where you can not only walk and get closer to the natural sources, but also admire the most incredible ships standing in the bay. Do not forget to wear comfortable shoes, because the examination of a huge territory can take a whole day!
