Downtown Miami — The Heart of City Life and Culture

Downtown Miami — where modernity meets history and urban architecture coexists with cultural landmarks.

Downtown Miami is the central and business part of the city, which is recognized as one of the most fashionable areas of Miami and is considered its heart. Many have heard about this American city, where there is only one time of the year — summer, and where the cleanest beaches in the world stretch. But few people know how contrasting it is, while incorporating rich and chic neighborhoods where the largest financial institutions and trade conglomerates have found refuge, and streets where refugees from poor Latin American countries are mostly huddled, mostly Haitians and Cubans. In general, for every sixth out of ten inhabitants of these places, their native language is Spanish.

Some draw parallels between Downtown Miami and Dubai — the same mixture of luxury and urban architecture. Local landmarks are considered magnificent villas of the most influential and famous people of the planet, among which are Madonna and Julio Iglesias.

Restaurants in Downtown Miami

Downtown Miami is famous for its bars and cafes. You can enjoy excellent inexpensive lobster for strong drinks in the cafe Tobacco Way, where the legends of the American blues Guy and Hooker once entertained the public.

In the Corner cocktail bar, you can try almost fifteen varieties of cocktails, including exclusive daiquiri: Florida, with golden rum, Maraskin liqueur, freshly squeezed lime juice and cane sugar, as well as another version, attributed to Ernest Hemingway — based on rum, liquor and grapefruit juice.

There are also several restaurants that attract visitors with their atmosphere, excellent cuisine and high popularity ratings:

  • A real gourmet will certainly be attracted to the Rooftop restaurant, which has chosen the roof of the Touche strip club, well-known throughout the state. In the small restaurant hall for fifty visitors you can not only enjoy exquisite creations of classic Italian cuisine, but also admire the panorama of the city from the outdoor terrace.
  • The menu of another diner, loved by tourists, with the romantic name La Mancha, mainly consists of dishes from the Pyrenees and Brazilian cuisines, teeming with seafood and a variety of meat dishes, stuffed with exotic spices.
  • An inconspicuous-looking, and executed in the style of a rustic house among the marine interior of the promenade, a small cafe Garcia Seafood Grille is recognized as a local highlight. Here you can have a delicious lunch with giant shrimps, sea crayfish or a perch on a spit with crispy potatoes, and for dessert try the fantastic taste of lime pie, which, admittedly, has no equal in all of Florida.
  • A fine fusion restaurant is located in the building of the Aparthotel Epic. The restaurant is attractive for its excellent quality of traditional Japanese cuisine and a mixture of various modern cultures and customs, as well as for its stunning views of the Miami River and the high-rise of the financial suburb of Brickell.
  • Seaspice — you should pay attention to the new restaurant with its amazing Sunday brunches and parties.
  • Kiki on the River is a restaurant serving Greek and Mediterranean dishes located right across the wall from the previous Sispays restaurant.

Hotels and Shopping

Downtown Miami and the neighborhoods closest to it are literally packed with first-class hotels, among which stand out

  • Hilton
  • Hyatt Regency
  • Mandarin Oriental;
  • Mariott
  • Hampton;
  • and others — there is certainly no shortage of hotels.

As for shopping, first of all, you should visit the Bayside Marketplace, which holds the palm of the largest trading house. Rather, it’s just a long, covered street, where boutiques, coffee houses and bars alternate.

If you want to buy branded things and souvenirs, and even with significant discounts, then you need to visit one of the outlets — Dolphin Mall, but you will need to get there by taxi for 15-20 minutes. But for example, discounts in it reach 70 percent or more. There is also a new City Center shopping mall in nearby Brickell.

Historical reference

The history of Downtown Miami is inseparable from the past of the resort itself. Before the arrival of Europeans at the beginning of the 16th century, and the first of them were Spanish conquistadors, the Miami Indian tribes lived here, later giving their name to the area, as well as the Simenols, who moved to these parts from the northern states.

The first European immigrants began to settle in these parts already in the 1800s, gradually crowding out the indigenous inhabitants. The wealthiest of them immediately started buying up orange plantations and investing in urban planning and the construction of a railway line. Miami began to develop rapidly, which was greatly facilitated by the miraculous climate of these places: winter and summer temperatures practically do not differ and keep at 30 degrees. At the end of the 19th century, he was assigned city status.

Today, its population exceeds 5 million people and Miami is the largest metropolis of the southeastern region of the United States.
