Description and location of the SLS hotel
SLS South Beach is a historic hotel known for many years as the Ritz Plaza Hotel. Located in South Beach, Florida. The 12-story hotel was the tallest building in the city for 30 years until it was surpassed by 5660 Condominiums.
The Art Deco Tower, designed by architect Murray Dixon in 1939, was Miami Beach's first hotel. The hotel did not receive guests for long - the Second World War began. The US Army began to place high-ranking officers here. The hotel was reopened to all guests in 1946 as the Ritz Plaza. In 1991, the hotel became a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation of Historic Hotels of America. And in 2004 the hotel was sold to the developer Sam Nazarian and closed for renovation. The work took much longer — 8 years.
In 2012, a luxury boutique hotel opened under the name SLS South Beach. The brainchild of Sam Nazarian set out to create an alternative concept of luxury that revels in an unabashedly sassy, modern spirit. SLS is founded on the principles of incredible service, world class cuisine and unique design.
The SLS Hotel is located in the center of South Beach, one block north of Lincoln Road, on the oceanfront. It is surrounded by restored Art Deco hotels and restaurants. The SLS exudes a clubbing, nighttime vibe with a touch of rock and roll. Each zone has a specific design scheme: from bright aggressive colors to soft pastel colors.
The design studio of musician Lenny Kravitz was responsible for the interior design of SLS, drawing inspiration from travels around the world.
Infrastructure and amenities
Rooms
- The apartments are decorated in a muted color palette of white, black and soft pink. Although the rooms are quite chic and have all modern amenities, they are quite small — standard double rooms are only 24 m². The bathrooms are also stylish, but small, finished in white marble.
- A serious drawback is the lack of a closet. It is easy to survive if you move in alone, but with a family it is already difficult to survive such a disadvantage.
- Families are welcome, but the hotel caters primarily to the adult traveler who prefers to stay awake at night.
- Breakfast not included, will cost $15. Free WiFi.
Restaurants
- Bazaar is a restaurant by Chef José Andrés. It serves Spanish tapas, sandwiches and ham, made according to the laws of molecular cuisine. Other Spanish dishes include patatas bravas, croquettes and Catalan tomato bread with manchego.
- Katsuya Japanese Restaurant is popular with trendsetters and celebrities for its fresh sushi.
- Guests can enjoy drinks at the Centro Bar, located next to the Bazaar, and order signature cocktails. A Spanish breakfast buffet is served on the outdoor terrace, with items such as avocado eggs and olive oil pancakes.
Fitness center
SLS has two pools: the first one is located next to the outdoor cafe, and the second one is closer to the beach. One of which is designed for a relaxing holiday, and the other is open for parties. Both pools are surrounded by sun loungers.
The small fitness center has barbells and standard weight machines. There is a resort fee to visit the complex.
Business center
The hotel does not have traditional conference rooms, but the cabanas in the guest pool area can be combined and equipped as a conference room for 20 people. The resort's suites, penthouses and private dining rooms can be reserved for business meetings.
