The Florida Panthers, a hockey club founded in Sunrise, Florida, have been a competitive part of the NHL since 1992. They achieved Stanley Cup Finals appearances in 1996 and 2012. In late 1992, the NHL decided to expand the league, introducing a team from Miami. Wayne Huizenga became the owner of the Florida Panthers, with Roger Neilson as the coach.

  In his first 11 matches, he scored 13 goals and later netted 58 pucks. He broke Florida's record and became the sixth person in NHL history to score more than 50 pucks for different teams. Known for his speed as a forward, he was nicknamed "The Russian Rocket." He earned 94 points in the "goal+assist" system and took second place in the league. He was recognized as the most valuable player after the All-Stars matches. He received the Maurice Richard Trophy two times in a row. Later, he became the manager of the Russian team in the 2006 Winter Olympics and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012.
• Roberto Luongo
