History and features of the hotel
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996, the Biltmore Hotel first opened in Coral Gables, Florida in 1926. It was a popular location, first used as a hospital and then re-converted as a hotel in 1987.
It was built in 1926 by John Bowman and George Merrick as part of the Biltmore hotel chain. For a long time he served as a hospital. When completed, it was the tallest building in Florida, surpassing the Freedom Tower in downtown Miami. And the pool at one time was the largest in the world.
The Biltmore Hotel is located approximately 10 miles southwest of downtown Miami and approximately 6 miles south of Miami International Airport. Car rental is available at an additional cost. Pets allowed weighing no more than 35 pounds. A deposit of $500 is required for the entire stay of the pet.
With its Mediterranean architecture, fountains, huge arches and other picturesque details, the Biltmore is popular for wedding ceremonies and receptions. It features three ballrooms, a garden and courtyard. The largest place offers space for 1000 people. The most popular places are the Palme D'Or restaurant and the 18-hole golf course.
Children ages 9 to 16 can attend Culinary Summer Kids Camps for $520 per week. This cooking program offers classes Monday through Friday from 9 am to 2 pm. For families, there is a three-hour cooking class for $660.
The Biltmore Hotel was used as the setting for the movie Bad Boys and the TV shows CSI: Miami and Miami Vice.
