A few words about San Diego

San Diego is the second largest city in California. It is home to almost one and a half million inhabitants and more than 3 million people throughout the county. San Diego County has 18 cities and many charming neighborhoods.
San Diego is renowned for its climate, 70 miles of pristine beaches, and dazzling world-class family attractions.

In the eastern county, terrain ranges from gentle foothills to high mountains, from the historic mining community of Julian to Anza-Borrego State Park. In the northern part, the agricultural community produces a large number of excellent products. Here, quality grapes are grown and harvested, which become excellent wines and are served in elegant restaurants and resorts in the region.
In the west, the 70 miles of Pacific coastline is not only famous for surfing, boating, sailing and swimming, but also for supporting important scientific research at the Oceanographic Institute. History of San Diego

The first European to visit the region was a Spaniard named Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo. In 1542, Cabrillo led an expedition along the coast of California. June 27, 1542 Cabrillo set sail from La Navidad in Mexico. Three months later, he dropped anchor in the bay.
However, the real history of San Diego began in 1769, when the Spanish built a network of religious missions throughout California. Then in 1821. Mexico became independent from Spain, but in 1846. The US annexed California.
Although in 1850 The population of San Diego was only a few hundred people, it was already registered as a city. The whaling house was built in 1856. It was the first two-story brick house in California.
San Diego grew rapidly in the 1860s. If at first it remained tiny with a population of only 731 inhabitants, by 1870 it had already grown to 2300. In 1900, less than 18,000 people lived here, and by 1940 their number had grown to 200,000. In the second half of the century, it continued to flourish, and the number increased up to 696,000 people.
At the beginning of the 20th century, San Diego became the largest US naval base. Thanks to the navy, citizens suffered less in the depression of the 1930s than the rest of the United States.
In 1915 The city hosted the Panama-California Exposition, and 20 years later, the California-Pacific International Exposition.
In the 21st century, defense and tourism are becoming the main industries. With a population of 1.4 million in 2017, San Diego is California's second largest metropolitan area.
