The History of Fremont Street

Founded in 1905, Fremont Street became the heart of Las Vegas, boasting the city's first paved road and traffic light. Today, it pulses with life, attracting tourists with its bright signs and unique shows. It was here that gambling was legalized forever in 1931, marking the beginning of the city's prosperity.

In 1909, the population of Las Vegas was just 800 people, but the city grew rapidly thanks to its casinos. The construction of the Hoover Dam in the 1930s brought thousands of workers to local bars and casinos. Streetlights and electricity transformed Fremont Street into a shining city center. To modernize downtown and attract more tourists, the street was made pedestrian-only, and the Fremont Street Experience was constructed.

Now, Fremont Street attracts tourists with its dazzling light and sound shows, creating a festive atmosphere.

Famous Movies Filmed on Fremont Street

Fremont Street has been the backdrop for many famous movies, such as "Back to the Future," "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," and "Diamonds Are Forever." This confirms its status as one of the most iconic streets in Las Vegas.

Entertainment and Attractions

Before the artificial volcanoes, fountains, and the world's tallest Ferris wheel, Fremont Street was Las Vegas's main attraction. Here you can play blackjack, enjoy cheap drinks, street performers, and a constant party atmosphere. The street is home to ten casinos and hotels, and unlike the longer and more glamorous south strip, you can walk along Fremont Street.

The main feature of the Fremont Street Experience (FSE) is the giant screen at a height of 27 meters and 460 meters long, which hosts breathtaking shows.

The four-block dome provides shade during the day and spectacular shows at night. The average daily cost of rooms in downtown hotels is $65, making Fremont Street an affordable place to stay. You can visit this place anytime, day or night, but be cautious after dark.

Things to Do on Fremont Street

Head downtown to Fremont Street, a tourist destination with neon tents, souvenir shops, and the smell of beer. This historic part of Las Vegas has become much more lively and noisy in recent years. There's plenty to see and do here.

  • Swim with Sharks
Head to the Golden Nugget pool and check out The Tank aquarium, where five different species of sharks get along surprisingly well with rays and other exotic fish. The water slide passes right through the tank, immersing you in a beautiful and terrifying atmosphere.
  • Dine at Carson Kitchen
Launched by the late celebrity chef Kerry Simon, this casual dining spot is run by Chef John Courtney, who keeps the menu fresh, appealing, and regularly updated.
  • Watch the Ceiling Video
The most famous part of downtown is the Fremont Street Experience pedestrian walkway, covered with a canopy. Here you will find Viva Vision, the largest video screen in the world with more than 12 million LED lamps, 90 feet wide and 1,500 feet long.
  • Photograph the Cowboy
You know this cowboy; you've seen him a million times. The neon cowboy originally marked the entrance to the Pioneer Club, which closed several years ago. But the cowboy is so ingrained in the minds of tourists that he still stands next to a souvenir shop near the Golden Nugget.
