Downtown and Financial District Manhattan Tour

Walking Tour of Downtown Manhattan

Downtown is the most popular tourist part of New York. There's certainly a lot to see here. Many think that Downtown is somehow inferior because it is "lower." In reality, it's quite the opposite — several of Manhattan's main attractions, financial centers, and the best recreational spots are concentrated here. But first, let's understand what Downtown is and how to recognize it.

Downtown refers to Lower Manhattan, encompassing the area from 14th Street down to the New York harbor at the confluence of the East River and Hudson. This area historically accumulated port, trade, and industrial districts. The site of the current port and Battery Park was once the location of a Dutch military fort. The fort is long gone, but the streets around it remain haphazardly scattered, making Downtown somewhat of an anomaly in the city’s layout and somewhat challenging to navigate without a guide.

Throughout the history of the United States, Lower Manhattan has been considered a territory of hard workers and industrialists. Today, it is home to creative districts, the most interesting museums, and avant-garde parks.

Downtown and financial center of New York

Here's what you'll see on the tour

We tailor routes individually — each traveler or group matters. However, there are places that are consistently in demand.

Financial District: Wall Street, The Bull, and National Debt

What we've all seen in the news and movies is actually far more impressive. The Financial District lies between Battery Park and the World Trade Center. Wall Street is the heart of the Financial District, a street made famous by the New York Stock Exchange. Just thinking about how the fate of millions of corporations around the world is decided here every second makes your fingers twitch.

Two blocks from the stock exchange stands the Charging Bull statue. Interestingly, this statue belongs to street art: the state did not commission any symbols of economic power. And there was nothing to spend — it appeared on the street after the market crash in 1987. The sculptor invested almost $400,000 in its creation and installation. So, it's impossible not to talk about money here.

Also, on Wall Street is the famous national debt clock displaying the growing U.S. debt in real-time. But we won't tell you today's figure — you'll be surprised on the spot.

Chinatown and Little Italy

These two ethnic neighborhoods are arguably the most peaceful and interesting. While only a couple of blocks of Little Italy remain, Chinatown is still flourishing. If you've never been here, you might think there's nothing to see. But the character of Chinatown simply knocks you off your feet — it's not China and not America, it's Chinese America. It looks, smells, and lives by its own rules.

This place is hard to describe in just a few words, but it's definitely worth a visit. Chinatowns have become as much a part of New York as the Statue of Liberty, which, by the way, is clearly visible from Downtown.

Ground Zero

A small port district, once a radio market and later the world's most famous commercial platform, both gloriously and sadly. It was here that the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, destroyed by terrorist planes on September 11, 2001, once stood. Today, a memorial and museum have been built on their site, surrounded by the new WTC towers. You can learn more about the history and content of Ground Zero from a detailed article on our website.

These are just three stops out of dozens possible. As insiders, we understand that the best option is to tailor a route based on the traveler's interests. And this is possible: tell us your preferences, tastes, or even just how much time you have, and we will organize the perfect leisure for you not only in Downtown but throughout New York.
