In 1915, Annie Rivers and her son Cheese were among the first settlers in the area. Then she was known as The Back Bay, because there was a protected pier of the city. The docks served the fishing trade and several well-known bootleggers.

By 1927, The Back Bay became a community center for first settlers who built roads all year round, created the fishing industry and laid the foundation for Naples.

Bayview Inn, a grocery store and a hotel that includes the city’s first pharmacy, made these people feel at home. The hotel had billiards room, dance floor and a large dining room, as well as the first city newspaper, the Naples Transcript, was sold here.

Ed Creighton was responsible for all the early development in the area and was the first president of the city council of Naples. In 1935, his friend Benny Morris bought most of the land from Creighton and, to express his appreciation, renamed the district Crayton Cove.

The Bayview Inn mentioned earlier went through several owners, but in the end it was decided to demolish it after the hurricane in 1960. Four years later, Bayview Inn reopened and converted to a condominium.

What to look at

A big surprise awaits you when you discover the culture of art and events that are often held here. During breaks you can sip Daiquiri's classic cocktail and dine at amazing restaurants in this historic coastal region.

Pay attention to the historic plaque, erected in honor of the diamond jubilee (75 years) since the founding of the city. She tells visitors that the area was first settled in 1915 and it became an important protected pier for fishing boats and workers.

In the area there are five art galleries where you can find something to decorate your house and buy gifts for relatives. Galleries organize Art After Dark event on the second Saturday of each month. These evening gatherings include live music, drinks and snacks, as well as the opportunity to talk with local artists about their work.

Something is always happening or planned in this historic area, such as the Great Dock Canoe Race, one of Naples most popular events.

Entertainment

The Christmas Boat Parade is another long-awaited event that lights up the marina and the bay with lights and parades the motley decorated boats. The parade of boats is held annually on the second Saturday of December.

Known as the original old Naples, Crayton Cove is home to charming independent shops and boutiques, including Back of the Bay.

Guests of the Historic Cove Inn can dine in stylish surroundings in a historic setting or admire the magnificent water view at Dock Restaurant, which is another local attraction.

If you like fishing, book a charter with Tarpon Tamer. So you will see the sunset from the deck of the catamaran, organize a floating party and rent a boat, kayak or paddleboard for the day. Come out to the water with pelicans and seabirds and enjoy the natural beauty of this rich region. Guests traveling on their own boat, can take advantage of the city berths, where the ship can fit up to 120 feet.

Despite being one of the oldest districts in the city, Crayton Cove has lush landscaping, plenty of parking and good roads, which makes it a place that the inhabitants of Naples are justly proud of.
