The story of the adventuredome park

In the 60s, Las Vegas was in the throes of themed establishments, from Egyptian dunes to Roman palaces. The casino was designed to resemble a big top.

There were waitresses in revealing outfits, blackjack dealers in T-shirts, and a slide for drunk gamblers. The lack of a hotel led to financial problems, as the casino was unable to attract large players. I had to get involved in mafia intrigues in an attempt to find money to build a tower for a hotel.

A couple of years later, Jay Sarno sold the establishment to William Bennett, who threw out some flashy shows and continued to expand the hotel. The peculiar mixture of circus atmosphere and gambling tables has made the casino a popular decoration in both books and movies.

The casino has appeared in the films Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Diamonds Are Forever, and also in Austin Powers. Now the hotel receives about 3 million visitors annually.

Adventuredome Park Rides

The organizers say the park has 25 attractions. True, only 17 of them are free or included in your unlimited pass (more on that below). They include everything from the standard carousel to the 4-D Ice Age movie and the wild El Loko roller coaster. There's armored car rides, kart rides, and one of those big fake boats that swing back and forth in the air. The other eight cost an additional admission fee.

Perhaps the most popular ride is the Canyon Blaster roller coaster, which reaches 55 mph.

Those of you who live with young children may wonder if the park is worth visiting for them. We think so. A pair of Road Runner and Miner Mike mini roller coasters are fast enough to put a smile on the face of a young child and give them a little scare. Your toddler will have enough fun to keep the price of the unlimited kid pass worthwhile.

Ticket prices

Entry to Adventuredome is free. You just go inside, although you have to bypass one of those photographers who want to take a picture and then sell it to you for a very high price.

You pay only to use the attractions and ride the attractions.

Thus, there are two ways to buy tickets at Adventuredome:

1. full day pass;
2. buy for every trip.

Buying a full-day pass will be more profitable if you visit four or more attractions, which will happen — most trips do not last very long.

All day passes are based on height. Even if your child is only, say, five years old, you will have to pay full price if it turns out to be 4 feet or taller. Prices range from $20 to $34.

Tips when visiting

• If you don't want unlimited travel and instead want to purchase individual tickets, you should know that they start at $6 and end at $12.
• As with Disneyland, Universal Studios and other theme parks, you can avoid the lines by getting there early.
• If you are visiting Las Vegas during the school year, try to avoid the afternoon weekend when enough locals visit the park. Saturday afternoons are especially busy as you combine the typical tourist traffic with lots of birthday celebrations.
